Mumbai: The ramp witnessed a mini world tour through Rimi Nayak’s eyes at the Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2015. Reminiscent of the places visited, travel plans and memorable souvenirs, this year’s Rimi Nayak collection for the Lakme Fashion Week 2015 was one of a kind and unforgettable.
A vibrant combination of bold colours and geometric shapes created this lovely collection that is synonymous with travel maps. Inspired by cartographic art of the modern era this collection is a work of sheer genius. Cartography, the art of making maps, is an age-old technique which is represented in the collection graphically and through a plethora of interwoven webs of intricate surface-embellishment techniques, forming the thematic base.
The designs were created in sync with her signature Bengali typeface to develop graphical artwork. Various hand-crafted techniques like cutwork, thread-texturing and hand-embroidery could be seen in this artistic collection. The shades of blue and green predominantly feature in the collection along with highlights of bright vibrant colours.
Rimi Nayak India took the show on a colourful journey of travel and its tales. A beautiful array of Long resort-wear dresses, draped jackets, summer tunics, trousers and tops along with flared gowns form the heart of the silhouette enthralled the audience. The subtle design and graphic detailing added an understated elegance to the fluid character of the outfits.
One could also spot the use of fine fabrics like Georgette, crepe, handloom cotton and satin. Rimi Nayak brings a mind blowing collection for the 7th season this year. And she feels “The past few days have been crazy and I have been eagerly waiting to reveal my collection. It is always fun to be a part of Lakme Fashion Week. I’ve been travelling quite a lot in the past few months and that is how the collection ‘Travel Trails’ was born. It is a brilliant forum to showcase and celebrate the art of fashion.”
