Lakme Fashion Week 2020 Day 1 Raw Mango debuts new collection ‘Moomal’

22.10.7

On its first day of the event, the theme was of ‘Sustainable Fashion Day’.

For the first time ever, Lakme Fashion Week is being conducted digitally owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. On its first day of the event, the theme was of ‘Sustainable Fashion Day’. Sanjay Garg, the founder of Raw Mango that focuses on contemporary handwoven textiles like stoles, fabric and sarees debuted their new festive collection called ‘Moomal’.

Raw Mango’s collection was quite traditional this year with the aesthetics belonging to Rajasthan and also invoked with a heavy sense of nostalgia.  Instead of using trendy models, the collection gave homely feels owing to its rawness. The traditionalness was also depicted by the colours used for the collection.

“While going to my paternal side weddings we would usually take a detour and see the frescos and havelis in the narrow lanes of Nawalgarh before reaching Jhunjhunu. The nights were usually women singing folk songs, applying mehendi, dancing and sewing gota pattis on their 'chalkas' (bhandej odhanis) for the functions ahead. I would get up in the morning to see the same bright chalkas all around, glistening in the sun. Raw mango's campaign reminded me of the very same essence and the nostalgia of the shekhawati weddings at home.” – @riya_khicher.
