Established as the queen of Indian television, Ekta Kapoor has brought women to the forefront in the entertainment and cinema business. The head honcho of Balaji Telefilms has churned out films and concepts like Ragini MMS and The Dirty Picture with women headlining prominent roles no one dared to try before. Strong female characters are the highlight of most of the creations under Ekta’s banner and so it is no wonder that she has been invited to an event called, We The Women, to shed light on the gender issues prevalent in India along with Information, Broadcasting and Textiles Minister, Smriti Irani.
It is known that the two ladies share a long association and friendship. The latter’s career as an actress received a boost after she was cast as Tulsi in a popular TV serial, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, conceptualized by Ekta. It’s rather fitting that the two women, who are making quantum leaps in the entertainment industry and the development of the country respectively should come together to talk about women empowerment, pay disparity and pressures that working women put up with. Interestingly, the discussion will be moderated by Karan Johar, who is known for his zing and humour.
