Known for her strong sense of opinion and outspoken attitude, Richa Chaddha has again made the headlines. She was trolled on the grounds of tweeting a “public interest notice” calling out to save Hinduism from supporters of Hindutva. The issue came in light when Kathua gang rape case was doing viral rounds in the media and protests were being called out to punish the perpetrators.
Richa tweeted, (Yes, the Hindu religion is in danger in India. It’s in danger because of those who bear the flags of hindutva. Save the religion and banish these so called hinduites. Issued in Public Interest.) – Translated in English
Right after her tweet, the so called cyber-warriors bashed her with their hateful comments and trolled her for not knowing the ground reality of the issue, & mocking her for the celebrity status.
Amid all this chaos, Sherrin Varghese, a well known musician based in Mumbai and the band member of A Band of Boys, came out to her support.
Sherrin was quoted saying, “The biggest threat to spiritual Hinduism are the chest thumping Hindutvavadis in the form of unemployed youth. I won’t be surprised if there is a “Cambridge Analytica” in action in our country given the recent spate of saffronisation in our country!”.
Giving it back to the trolls and supporting Richa for speaking out her mind fiercely, Sherrin’s take was legit enough to bring out the true essence of the issue, which needed consideration.
Cyber-bullying, be it on Twitter, Facebook or any other platform, has given the so called armchair activists the right to troll and bash anyone, but people like Richa Chadda and Sherrin Varghese have always made sure to stand up against it.
