Although he is known as the ‘He-Man’ of Indian cinema, veteran legend Dharmendra in his entire career often proved he has a knack of doing comedic roles as well. He is considered one of the most successful actors of Bollywood and was often seen in righteous and action-packed roles. However, there have been quite a few films from the time he was at the top of his game that prove he could manage to get watchers to roar with laughter due to his versatile roles.

Here is a specially curated list of some of Dharmendra’s comedic roles from Bollywood:

1. Munna Babu (Ghazab)

This family drama featured Dharmendra as Munna Babu, who is a naive man but is quite well off. Things get exciting when the staff hired by him try to deceive him and make a profit out of it. The film soon became a favourite of the audience as people were quite impressed by the funny role portrayed by the actor.

2. Ashok (The Burning Train)

For most of it, The Burning Train was an action drama with a stellar star cast. There were some comedy scenes within the film to not let it get too intense.  Check out this funny clip where both Vinod Khanna and Dharmendra try to woo the same girl.

3. Dr Parimal Tripathi (Chupke Chupke)

In this Hrishikesh Mukherjee directorial, Dharmendra stole the show with his effortless comedy. It is considered to be one of the best films of his career. He essays the role of a  gatekeeper and later a chauffeur in order to fool his brother-in-law his wife is all praises about. The film was about how a little scheme ends up in a rollercoaster of a ride with lots of hilarious moments and twists and turns.

4. Veeru (Sholay)

One of the most iconic films to ever come out from Indian cinema, Sholay had a bit of everything, which also included comedy. Although it had many comedic characters like the Jailor and Soorma Bhopali, there was also a lot of comedic banter between two main leads Jai and Veeru. See the clip here.

5.  Dharam Singh Dhillon (Yamla Pagla Deewana)

This family entertainer proved that Dharmendra is still in touch with his comedic side even during his 70’s. Fans loved this mad ride which featured the Deol family reuniting for a comedy film after their intense drama ‘Apne’. People were highly impressed by his comedic timing and charisma in this film.
