Mumbai: The Prakash Jha produced Crazy Cukkad Family was screened last evening at PVR ECX Citi Mall. The special screening kicked off the celebrations for the gay pride activities which take place this month. Representatives of Humsafar & Yaariyan Trust attended the screening.
Crazy Cukkad Family is the first hindi film which has broken the stereotype of the portrayal of the gay community in hindi films. The movie also has a scene showing a same sex marriage. Upon release Crazy cukkad family has received positive reviews and appreciation for these scenes and the film has been widely appreciated by the audiences.
Ritesh Menon (Director CCF) -In our film we have tried to depict homosexuality as part of everyday life. It is a reality and not some alien concept. We wanted to move away from the stereotypical caricature of gay or lesbian characters in movies. That’s why it is a privilege for us to be showing the film to members of the LGBT community as for the first time we have shown a gay couple getting married in a traditional Indian function. Truly excited.
Siddharth Sharma (Actor CCF) – Well for me this role was like any other. I have never ever Distinguished between straight or gay people in my life. Yes there was skepticism regarding its portrayal as Indian cinema has always showed it in a cliched way. But then Ritesh he assured me that it is going to be a man loving another man.
And gave me barney stinsons reference in how I met you’re mother.
Not to mention chotus character is very real to real life as there are many out there whose family does not recognize Their sexualities and forcing get get married. Hope they will take clue from this and be sensitive and accepting towards their children/siblings
