Mumbai: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah who will next be seen in Viacom18 Motion Pictures’ Dharam Sankat Mein had to go through an interesting transformation for this satirical comedy. Sources reveal that the actor’s character in the film has been inspired by social reformer, preacher, spiritual leader and the head of the India-based socio-spiritual organisation Dera Sacha Sauda , Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of MSG fame.
While the makers remain tight-lipped about the details, sources reveal that Naseeruddin Shah’s look and costumes in the film have been fashioned on the lines of the spiritual guru,having gone through over 60 look tests to finalize the final look.
As per the source, “Naseeruddin Shah’s character in the film is called Neelanand Baba, who has a massive devotee following who have blind faith on this Baba and his eccentricities, which has raised curiosity on whether his character is based on Ram Rahim and his organization DSS. While the makers have rubbished the rumor, the character and plot around him, apart from the look Naseer sports in the film, bears an uncanny resemblance to the real-life spiritual leader”.
