Malayalam film ‘Jallikattu’ becomes India’s official entry to 2021 Oscars!

Visionary director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s 2019 film ‘Jallikattu’ has bagged itself a position at the 2021 Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars. It is India’s official entry in the category of ‘International Feature Film’.

The news was made official by the Film Federation of India. Before this major milestone, the film was felicitated at many important events like 24th Busan International Film Festival under, ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ and Toronto International Film Festival in 2019. It had garnered worldwide critical acclaim since then.

Multilatented sensation Prithviraj Sujumaran also took to his social media to wish congratulations to the entire cast and crew of the film for such a prestigious honour. His tweet said, “Huge congrats to #LijoJosePellissery and the entire team of #Jallikattu #TheBeginning”

Major roles in Jallikattu were played by Chemban Vinod Jose, Anthony Varghese and Sabumon Abdusamad. The premise of the film revolved around a buffalo who has run lose and the involvement of an entire village to catch it. It is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
