Apart from presenting unique storylines within the Hindi film industry, cinephiles also like a glimpse of realism. Hence, biopics inspired by true events are another way for the makers to garner attention and praise from the public. Mostly, the response has been incredible when a biopic has been made within Bollywood, be it Super 30, Neerja, Bhaag Mikha Bhaag or MS Dhoni. Biopics have the knack of striking the right emotional chords of the viewers and ruling over their hearts.

So we bring to you the list of some of the most anticipated biopics to come from the Indian film industry:

1. Thalaivi

Kangana Ranaut will soon be seen essaying the role of the famous politician cum actress from Tamil Nadu, the late Jayalalithaa. The actress’ resemblance to her character is quite uncanny and have impressed the fans quite a lot to watch the upcoming film. Recently, the last few sequences of the film were shot owing to the prolonged lockdown due to COVID pandemic. Earlier meant to release in June 2020, Thalaivi will most probably release in 2021 now.

2. 83

Noted director Kabir Khan helmed a sports biopic based on Indian cricket team’s first WorldCup win in 1983. Stellar actor Ranveer Singh will be seen essaying the role of the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in the movie. Other actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khatter, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree will be seen playing significant characters in the film. It is scheduled for a December 2020 theatrical release.

3. Shaabaash Mithu

Taapsee Pannu has bagged the role of playing Mithali Raj, the highest scorer of runs in Woman’s International Cricket in her biopic titled ‘Shaabaash Mithu’. She shared the first look for the same on her Twitter sometime during the month of January. Rahul Dholakia will be directing this film which will release in early 2021.

4. The untitled Sam Manekshaw Biopic

Meghna Gulzar is all set to make a biopic on Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw with Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The film will capture the life of Manekshaw, the Chief of the Army Staff during 1971 when the Indian Army was facing the Indo-Pak War. Owing to the delay due to the lockdown, the film will go into production from 2021.

5. Gangubai Kathiawadi

This film will mark the first-ever collaboration of Alia Bhatt with critically celebrated director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She will soon be seen playing the role of Gangubai Kathiawadi, a famous brothel owner belonging to Kamathipura. The film will encompass the entire journey of Gangubai as to how from a young girl, she ended up entering the underworld.
