Veteran actor Jagdeep, who recently lost his life due to natural causes was buried in a cemetery in Mumbai on the morning of Thursday, 9 July 2020. His family, which included sons Naved and Jaaved Jaaferi, other members and some close relatives were present to carry out the last rites. As the coronavirus pandemic is still on the rise, not many people were seen attending the funeral.
Although, apart from the senior actor’s family, Johnny Lever also came to the ceremony to pay his respects and bid him goodbye. Lever also took to twitter to express himself after hearing about the actor’s demise. He tweeted, “My first film and the first time I ever faced the camera, was in the film Yeh Rishta Na Toote with the legend himself – Jagdeep bhai. We will miss you… May his soul rest in peace. Our prayers and deepest condolences to the family.”

Although he was widely known to the world by his stage name ‘Jagdeep’, his real name was Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri. His career spanned to over 400 films and he gave the Indian film industry many memorable roles. One of them being ‘Soorma Bhopali’ from the evergreen and one of the most successful Bollywood film, Sholay.
His debut into the Bollywood industry was in the form of a child actor, for BR Chopra’s film ‘Afsana’ in 1951. He further starred in films like ‘Munna’, ‘Aar Paar, ‘Do Bigha Zamin’ and so on.
His performance in the 1957 release ‘Hum Panchhi Ek Daal Ke’ also got him the National Award in the category of Best Children’s film. He portrayed the character of Laloo Ustad in the film.
The last film he starred in came out in 2012 and was titled ‘Gali Gali Chor Hai’, he was seen as a police constable in the film.
