It was a dark day for the Indian film industry as Jagdeep, one of the veteran comedic geniuses from Bollywood died on 8 July 2020. He was 81 years of age. He entertained the audience on the silver screens in over 400 films and his career spanned for 60 years while receiving praises from everyone in the country.

One of the most renowned roles taken up by the actor was from the 1975 evergreen hit Sholay, in which he was seen as Soorma Bhopali. The film has been loved by people from all the generation and has also been regarded as a cult classic.

In the plot of the film Sholay, the character of Soorma Bhopali is supposed to help the two protagonists of the film, Jai and Veeru. In order to do that, Soorma Bhopali has to take the duo to the police and collect the reward that has been assigned for them. Both Jai and Veeru settle upon distributing the cash reward after escaping jail. One of the most hilarious scenes from the film is Soorma Bhopali is lying through his teeth and reciting a heroic tale about capturing the duo while both Jai and Veeru show up as they stand behind him.

You can watch the clip down below:

In this extremely hilarious segment of the film, Soorma Bhopali is boasting about capturing the delinquents. He leaves no stones unturned when it comes to being a loudmouth and bragging about his strength.  In no time, Jai and Veeru appear sneakily behind him and once confronted with that, Soorma Bhopali’s attitude changes quickly and he rather blames the audience for cooking up a fake story on behalf of him.

It is said that, as the screenwriting duo Salim-Javed have been based in Bhopal, they made sure Jagdeep remembers and learns mannerisms and the Bhopali accent before portraying the role. But Jagdeep heavily improvised when the filming began and the result was hilarious.

His portrayal is considered one of the most memorable moments of the actor on screen. RIP Jagdeep.
