Here are the upcoming films meant for the silver screens but will stream on OTT platforms

Although it was supposed to release on the silver screens, the makers announced that the film will now be a part of a Zee network’s newly announced cinema to home (c2h) service Zee Plex.

Amidst the time of the coronavirus pandemic, the OTT platforms have greatly benefitted from it and made it a game-changer. The streaming services have not only made films more accessible but also made a variety of new releases affordable with the comfort of watching it at your own home.

Although it is not unusual for streaming services to release original content on their websites and apps, the COVID-19 lockdown era observed a change in this practice. That is because many films which were scheduled for big releases i.e. on multiplexes have now shifted to an OTT release due to the prolonged ban on cinema halls.

So here are the films which shifted from theatrical to an OTT release:

1. Bhuj: The Pride of India

Originally meant to release on the big screens on 14 August 2020, Bhuj:  The Pride of India will be based on a real-life incident where as much as 300 women from Gujarat helped the Indian Airforce during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. It will feature a star cast of Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharad Kelkar, Nora Fatehi, Ammy Virk, Pranitha Subhash and Mahesh Shetty. A fresh release date hasn’t been revealed yet but it will stream on Disney + Hotstar.

2. The Big Bull

The film will star Abhishek Bachchan and will focus on the biggest financial scam during the 1990s to 2000s that took place by Harshad Mehta. It will also star Ileana D’Cruz and Samir Soni. A while ago, it was made official that the film is scheduled for an OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar.

3. Indoo Ki Jawani

‘Indoo Ki Jawani’ will be a coming of age film of the comedy genre featuring Kiara Advani in the lead role. It will also star Aditya Seal and Mallika Dua. The plot will centre around Indoo, a girl from the city of Ghaziabad and her adventures with dating apps. The film was originally headed for a June 2020 release, but it is alleged that Netflix has roped the film and it will now release on the streaming giant.

4. Laxxmi Bomb

Laxxmi Bomb will be an official hindi remake of the Tamil horror-comedy titled ‘Kanchana’. The story will feature Akshay Kumar as the lead where he will be seen getting possessed by a ghost. In one of the interviews, the actor had described the role to be “mentally intense” for him.  The film will also have Kiara Advani and Tusshar Kapoor in significant roles. It was exclusively announced that this film is also scheduled to release on Disney+ Hotstar.

5. Khaali Peeli

This film by newcomers Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday was one of the most awaited films of 2020. People were excited to see the fresh pair for this masala entertainer.
