The makers of ‘Masaan’, ‘Ankhon Dekhi’, ‘Dhanak’ and ‘Waiting’, Drishyam Films have today unveiled the official poster of their forthcoming movie ‘Newton’. It is a razor sharp black comedythat stars Rajkummar Rao in the leading role.
The first poster features Rajkummar Rao on the run with the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) and has the caption “Seedha Aadmi Ulti Duniya!”. The first look of the movie is exciting and that bewildered expression on the actor’s face suggests that he is caught in a narrow escape zone.
The movie is directed by Amit V Masurkar (of Sulemani Keeda fame) and produced by Manish Mundra. It is the story of Newton Kumar, who is a rookie government clerk sent on election duty to a Naxal-affected town, in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh, India. Faced with the apathy of security forces on one hand and the looming fear of guerrilla attacks by the communist rebels on the other, he tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the odds stacked against him, all with a fresh dollop of humour.
Receiving a standing ovation at its world premiere at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, Newtonwon the CICAE Art Cinema Award in the Forum segment. The movie has also won a jury prize at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and made its North American premiere in the International Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The starcast of Newton also includes Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghuvir Yadav and Sanjay Mishra. The movie will be releasing on August 18, 2017.
