Actress Shilpa Shetty attended ‘Manyata’ – movement for quality maternal care in India along with Poonam Dhillon and Pankaja Munde on Saturday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, Shilpa stressed that mother’s health during pregnancy is equally important as of the child.

“It is important to create awareness, this movement Manyata, it was launched little while ago, I do a lot of things as celebrity, but this one is especially close to my heart because I am a mother to a child, and I feel that in India, kids are given more attention but not the mother. So while the woman is pregnant, we have to let people also encourage mothers to take care of themselves, not only take care of the child” said Shilpa Shetty.

The actress also expressed that as a nation, we have to spread the message about this issue on grass root level to eradicate mother’s death while pregnancy.

“I feel very proud as a woman but in the interiors of India, people don’t have an idea about maternity mortality rates are very high. Literally, 46000 women die every year because of childbirth and 200 women die each day so it is like airplane crash every day”

“We have to spread awareness about this issue and what these people are doing is really great. As a celebrity, we get associated with many causes but this is one special because I mother too and I feel, in India, we give a lot of importance to the child while the mother is pregnant but we have to encourage mothers to take care of themselves. The experience of prenatal care is very important for mothers because if they don’t take care of their health then how does their child will be born healthy so we have to spread awareness about this issue in grass root levels”

The actress Shilpa also admitted that she associates with a lot of charity work but this one is closer to her hearth and nothing could be bigger than this.

“I am glad to be part of this panel, where I can use my voice and statues, my celebrity status. We actors associated with a lot of charities and I think nothing can be bigger than this one. Mothers should feel happy and not fearful about childbirth” said Shilpa.
