
Today marks the birthday of Adil Hussain. He is undoubtedly one of the most versatile actors we have belonging to the Hindi film industry. He is not only recognised for his contribution to mainstream Bollywood films but also art-house and international cinema. Before joining the National School of Drama, he was also known for his stand up comedy for almost 6 years. He became a student at Drama Studio London as well.
He has also been a part of the theatre scene before he joined the world of cinema. Some of his popular and acclaimed plays include ‘Othello: A Play in Black and White ‘ and ‘Goodbye Desdemona’. It was in 2004 that he made his debut through Bengali cinema as he acted in a film titled ‘Iti Srikanta’ with Soha Ali Khan. He also starred as the protagonist in the television series called ‘Jasoos Vijay’. The year 2012 turned out to be pretty amazing for Hussain as he starred in ‘Agent Vinod’ by Sriram Raghavan and Italo Spinelli’s Gangor, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
He garnered more and more recognition through films like ‘English Vinglish’, ‘Lessons In Forgetting’,’Lootera’ and so on. Two of his films i.e. ‘Mukti Bhavan’ and ‘Maj Rati Keteki’ were also honoured at the National Film Awards under the category, ‘ National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention (Feature Film)’ in 2017. He has also won the Best Actor award at the ‘New Jersey Independent South Asian Cine Fest’ and ‘Prag Cine Awards’ in 2012 and 2014. In 2020, his web show ‘Delhi Crime’ go nominated for an International Emmy and he got the Best Actor award at the Indo-German Film Week for his role in ‘Pareeksha’ and ‘Nirvana Inn’.
