Stellar filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is celebrating his birthday today. His films are recognised for the unconventional yet gripping themes that leave the audience baffled. Where most of the Bollywood focuses on making entertaining masala films, Kashyap’s films are unapologetically unfiltered which will compel you to think about what you experienced hours after you’ve left the film theatre.

A lesser-known fact about him is that he ventured into the entertainment business as a writer first and wrote the television show ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ from 1997 by Mahesh Bhatt and it aired on Star Plus. He then co-wrote Ram Gopal Varma’s supremely popular crime film ‘Satya’.

He debuted as a director with his film Paanch which has not yet released due to India’s film Certification Board holding it from release due to strong violence, drug abuse and depiction of verbal abuse in the film. The film ‘Black Friday’ marked his first official debut as a director and eas praised critically.

He gained prominence from his Gangs of Wasseypur franchise and later directed many other projects like Ugly, Bombay Velvet, Raman Raghav 2.0, Mukkabaaz, Manmarziyaan and so on. He also had a successful digital debut as he directed the praiseworthy web series ‘Sacred Games’ on Netflix with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan. He last directed the OTT film ‘Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai’ which was also released on Netflix.
