Today marks the birth anniversary of one of the most influential and legendary icons of the world of Indian cinema, former actress Sridevi. She was often respected as the ‘Megastar’ and the ‘First Female Superstar’ in India’s cinematic world.
Due to her flavourful portrayals in genres like drama and slapstick comedy, she was also regarded as the most versatile actress of her time. Performing and entertaining people was in her blood as she started her career in cinemas at the age of just 4 years. Her first-ever film was Kandhan Karunai a Tamil film. She became a prominent child actor in the south Indian film industry as she starred in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films.
‘Rani Mera Naam’ a film from 1972 marked her debut into Bollywood when she was aged 9. A lesser-known fact about the stellar actress is that she had as much of a successful career in the south as she did in the world of Hindi films. She established herself in the Tollywood industry in her youth years with films like Vetagadu, 16 Vayathinile, Angeekaram, Kshana Kshanam, Varumayin Niram Sivappu and many other films.
As an adult, she starred in the film Julie, which was a notable hit. Although she rose to prominence through roles like Himmatwala, Nazrana, Mawaali, Masterji, Mr. India, Tohfa, Naya Kadam and so on.
