Mumbai: Nidhi Dutta, who will be launched under the JP Gene banner with her debut ‘Jee bhar ke jee le’, has once been an assistant director. Nidhi has assisted her father in Umrao jaan and used to call him ‘sir’ on set. She has also got all the scoldings and lessons from her father on set of Umrao Jaan and was supposed to call him dad only when she was ‘off-duty’.

“I have spent the better part of my life on dad’s sets. But the scenarios are completely different when I’m there as his daughter as opposed to when I’m there as an AD. I had to address him as ‘sir’ on-set, just like all the other assistant directors. I treasure the experience of being his AD, as it has helped me understand the process of film-making in a holistic manner. Having run around on the sets, trying to facilitate my father to get the right shot, helped me understand what goes on behind the scenes”, Nidhi quoted.

Not only this, Nidhi also said that she loves being on set, be it in any form, be it an AD or managing things out there. But she wishes to be on a film set all her life.
