It’s been 8 years since ‘Cocktail’ released, say what you will about the film but one thing everyone will agree upon is how prominent and surprised people were at Deepika Padukone’s portrayal of Veronica. Directed by Homi Adajania, the film also starred debutant Diana Penty and Saif Ali Khan. It became a hit at the box office and was easily everyone’s favourite summer movie. While the story was nothing unusual and filled with extremely hilarious and romantic moments, it was Deepika Padukone as Veronica who took everyone’s breath away.

No one thought they could be enchanted by a ‘bad girl’ who likes to party like there’s no tomorrow every night, living a messy life in an already messed up world. As the story progresses, you begin to understand that Veronica is really just a reliable, unshielded and credulous girl, who has created a whole another persona to mask her unhappiness. She taught people that it’s okay for one to be how they are and not force things. Padukone’s charm was mesmerising as she transitioned herself into this character everyone could relate to.

Her career skyrocketed after this very film. She starred in 3 highest-grossing movies at the box office in 2013 with ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Chennai Express’. She, later on, gained more critical acclaim with her performance in films like ‘Piku’ ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and  ‘Padmavat’. She also made her international debut alongside Vin Diesel in the film ‘XXX: Return of Xander Cage’.

On the occasion of the 8th anniversary of Cocktail, the actress also changed her name on all of her social media handles to ‘Veronica’ with a picture of herself as the character in the film.
