RIP SP Balasubrahmanyam; Music icon passes away at 74

He tested negative for COVID on 4 September but was kept on ventilator and ECMO support.

The voice of SP Balasubrahmanyam ruled over the music industry for multiple decades. He was one of the best and most versatile voices to have ever existed in the industry. He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai and lost his life after suffering from COVID during the afternoon of 25 September. He was aged 74.

It was in August that the artist got hospitalised after contracting the coronavirus, which has been spreading like wildfire all over the world and has resulted in a pandemic. He tested negative for COVID on 4 September but was kept on ventilator and ECMO support.

The artist had a phenomenal voice and sung songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam apart from Hindi. In his entire career, he lent his voice to over 40,000 songs in 16 different languages and shined for decades to come.

He was also a 6-time national awardee in the category for Best Male Playback Singer. Apart from this, he also received the Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011 by the Government of India.
