Mumbai: Ahead of Mumbai Marathon, hundreds of children in the primary classes joined a ‘minithon’ to spread the message of `fitness through fun’, at Chembur in the City today.

Organised by Vivekanand Education Society (VES) DBC Primary School, the exciting event saw the students of Class III and IV running with passion and a competition spirit, while hundreds of parents formed a human chain on both sides of the road to cheer their wards. This was the second edition of the minithon, held to educate the students about the need for being fit.

“As part of the education itself, we have been imparting the lessons to our students about physical fitness and also generating deep interest for sports among them. Ahead of the minithon, we train the students and teach them about healthy eating habits and role of excise in daily life,” said school principal Shobha Sethi.

The students, who ran in batches, had been practising for the last two months just like professional runners under the guidance of PT teachers since the school is giving very much importance also to sports. The winners were given certificates.

“It was exciting and fun. We want to be fit and I want to participate in such runs in other places around also. We were training every day for last two months,” said one of the participants.
