Akshay and Sanjay Leela Bhansali organized for a combined press conference to talk about the release of both films on Friday. During interaction Akshay said, he personally wants Sanjay sir’s film to get a solo release.

PadMan,originally scheduled for the Republic Day weekend, has been postponed due to the box office clash with Bhansali’s Padmaavat on the makers request.

Describing the incident Akshay at the session said, “Today when I was rehearsing for Filmfare, I met Sanjay Leela Bhansali he wanted to know if it is possible for me to postpone the film. We have known each for a long time; we have worked on so many films together and we all belong to the same family. I understand he has gone through a lot. Even Studio’s large sum of money is involved. I know on a big weekend like this two films can be released but I personally want that Sanjay sir’s film to get a solo release. I wish him all the luck for the release.”

PadMan, co-starring Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, will now release on February 9 and not January 25, announced the lead actor.

Bhansali shared his gratitude towards the actor by saying, “I thought it could create some more issues for my film if they released together. Akshay is aware of all the situations we have been through. So when I asked without any delay, Akshay said, ‘whatever and however you want we can do it. I am here to support you.’ And I think to do something like this one needs a large heart, and to be able to exude so much goodness. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I am very grateful to him for a lifetime for what he has done.”

Padmaavat, previously titled Padmavati, was passed by the Censor Board earlier this month with five edits. The film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was originally scheduled to release last month had to be postponed after its application for certification was rejected, and it received backlash from the Rajput community. The latest development in the Padmaavat row was the Supreme Court lifting the ban placed on the film by a few Indian states.

PadMan stars Akshay Kumar as A Muruganantham, inventor of a low cost sanitary napkin machine. The film is presented by Columbia Pictures, Hope Productions, KriArj Entertainment and Mrs Funnybones Movies.

The controversial Padmaavat is based on the legend of Rani Padmini of Chittor, played by Deepika Padukone. Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji with Shahid Kapoor as Ratan Singh.
