Alia Bhatt who is busy promoting ‘Raazi’ said, Shemat is a historic character and playing her brought a sense of responsibility.

Alia was present at the song launch of her upcoming film, ‘Raazi’ on Wednesday in Mumbai.

When asked if Alia felt pressure while playing a historic character, she said, “There was pressure because this is a true story and I am playing a character that actually existed and that comes with a sense of responsibility and I hope there is the right amount of representation and emotions. I hope people feel what his character is feeling.”

While talking about the trailer response, the Highway actress said, “When we were shooting the film quietly, without saying a word anywhere in 47 days 7 scenes a day, we didn’t know we would be stating here. We hoped for a good response but we had no idea we would get such a beautiful response.”

When asked to share her opinion on the recent rape and mother cases of Kathua and Unnao case that have lead to an outrage among celebrities Alia said, “Of course, I have an opinion, it’s not just Bollywood but the whole country is angry about it and should be. people are angry on a humanitarian level. It is a disgraceful, shameful and terrible thing that happened. As a resident and part of this country, I feel bad and hurt that something like this has happened.

There was a time when I read a lot about it but the last few days I have stopped because the more I read the more upset I am going to feel. I had said this before and will say again I really hope from my heart that justice is served and we should really go and condemn this because we can’t let this happen constantly.”

The spy-romantic flick is based on ‘Calling Sehmat’, a best-selling book by Harinder Sikka. The film stars Alia Bhatt in the spy wife Shemat role and Vicky Kaushal as the Pakistani army officer, Shemat is married to.

Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar and Apoorva Mehta and co-produced by Priti Shahani.
